Ofori-Atta’s Interpol Red Notice status not final — OSP

Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Samuel Appiah Darko, has downplayed public reactions to reports that INTERPOL has removed the red notice issued for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, November 19, Mr. Darko cautioned against celebrating the development, noting that the status of a red notice can change at any time.

He said the OSP remains fully competent and is not struggling for relevance.

Sammy Darko said, “I noticed that just because his name has been redacted and restricted from public view. I noticed some people said it’s a big success for them and all that. You can even be removed from Interpol Red Notice today, and tomorrow you can be placed back on it. So this is not something people have to rejoice over because someone has been removed or the OSP is incompetent. The OSP is competent and knows what it is doing; it’s not struggling for relevance.”

His comments follow a clarification issued earlier by the OSP in response to media reports claiming INTERPOL had withdrawn the alert due to ongoing investigations into the OSP’s request.

In a statement released on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the OSP described the reports as “borne of mischief and misinformation.”

The office explained that in October 2025, the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files notified Ghanaian authorities that Mr. Ofori-Atta had applied to have his name removed from the red notice, prompting the ongoing review of his request.
