The government has announced that Mankraso Senior High School will receive a major upgrade following its impressive showing in the just-ended National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to scaling up high-performing schools and strengthening academic competitiveness nationwide.
Speaking to the media in Accra on Wednesday, November 19, the Minister revealed that Mankraso SHS had been added to the list of schools set for expansion under a broader upgrading programme.
“We intend to expand 10 category B schools to A, and 10 category C schools to B, and then expand some areas. And then, to many of the schools that may be listening to me, on my way here, I have added Mankraso Senior High School based on their performance at the National Science and Maths Quiz. My heart is warmed to reach out to them to know that their country appreciates that,” he said.
The upgrade is expected to enhance the school’s capacity, improve learning infrastructure, and position Mankraso SHS as a stronger competitor in national academic contests while supporting broader access to quality education.
Beyond this, the Minister also disclosed that government will complete 30 community day senior high schools—also known as e-blocks—under the 2026 budget allocation.
“We intend, under the $180 million, to complete 30 community-based senior high schools, which is referred to as an e-block,” he stated.
According to him, the combined interventions are aimed at expanding equitable access and ensuring that more schools have the facilities to deliver strong academic outcomes.
