Haruna Iddrisu is the Minister of Education
The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced plans to soon present a National Defence University Bill to Parliament, aiming to create a specialised university for the security services in Ghana.
Haruna Iddrisu made the disclosure at the launch of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s scholarship scheme for legislators and staff of the Parliamentary Service on November 17, 2025.
According to the minister, it is President John Dramani Mahama’s decision that the Ghana Armed Forces and its allied institutions be upgraded into a National Defence University.
‘What the Minority Leader is doing now is not what I did; I never raised my voice’ – Bagbin
“I’m sure sooner rather than later, I’ll come to Parliament to introduce the National Defence University. It’s President Mahama’s decision that the Ghana Armed Forces and all its allied institutions be upgraded into a university of the National Defence University (NDU). We’ll come to Parliament to introduce a bill on that,” he said.
The minister also praised the Speaker’s academic achievements, saying his experience makes him qualified to lead any top institution in the world.
“Everywhere in the world, Speaker Bagbin would qualify for a governor’s chair of any institution of higher learning, whether it’s Yale, Princeton, Oxford, or Cromwell—everywhere in the world, given his standing and given the enormous experience he has acquired over the period,” he added.
