Mr Armed Ibrahim Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has commended the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs for their immense contributions towards strengthening the prevailing peace of the region. He emphasised that peace remained prerequisite for accelerated development, urged the chiefs and queens to continue to live in harmony and to push the development of the region.Â
Mr Ibrahim gave the commendation when he paid a courtesy call to the region and interacted with the house of chiefs at Techiman. He assured them of the government’s commitment to advance the infrastructural development of the region. He said a committee had been set up to review the Chieftaincy Act and to make the chieftaincy institution more relevant to meet current realities.Â
Mr Ibrahim, also the Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency in the Bono Region said the government had prioritised the development needs of the area, saying more job opportunities would be created for the youth to find something worth doing and to enhance their socio-economic livelihoods. He expressed concern about the proliferation of small arms, which he added was now a nuisance in the country.Â
The Sector Minister said government was working to upgrade some municipal assemblies into the region to metropolitan status to push the holistic development of the region.Â
Nana Owusu Sakyi, the President of the Bono East House of Chiefs commended the government for appointing a substantive minister for the chieftaincy institution, and reminded President John Dramani Mahama to fulfil his Election 2024 campaign promise to improve road infrastructure in the region.Â
Nana Sakyi said improved road networks in the region would spur rapid socio-economic growth and development, saying as one of the food baskets of the nation, there was the need for the government to reshape the deplorable conditions of roads in the area. He also called on the government to expedite action for the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy to create more job opportunities for the people.Â
