Police arrest carpenter over murder of security guard

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old carpenter, Kwame Arhin, also known as Abompe, in connection with the murder of a security guard in Kibi.

The suspect was picked up on Sunday, November 16, 2025, after police found him hiding in a bush near the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education.

According to a statement issued by the Regional Police Command, officers received a distress call on Saturday, November 15, reporting the alleged murder of a man at Kibi Newtown.

Police swiftly deployed a team of detectives, including the Scene Management Unit, to the scene near the Kibi Court Complex to begin investigations.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a male adult, later identified as Jonas Baah Sarpong. The crime scene was processed, and the body was initially taken to the Kibi Government Hospital morgue before being transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for preservation and autopsy.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased, Jonas Sarpong, was a security guard at the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education. According to police findings, a misunderstanding between him and the suspect, Kwame Arhin, allegedly led to the suspect slashing the victim’s throat with a cutlass before fleeing the scene.

Police apprehended Arhin the following day, and he is currently in custody as he is being processed for court. The Eastern South Regional Police Command says investigations are ongoing.Police
