Ho, Nov 16, GNA – Captain George Nfodjoh (Rtd), Ghana’s Ambassador to Togo, has formally assumed office after presenting his letter of credence to Togo’s President in a ceremony marked by full military honours and diplomatic pageantry.
The ceremony, held Wednesday, November 12 at the Presidential Palace in Lomé, took place two weeks after the Ambassador’s arrival in what he described as the “environmentally friendly and welcoming city” of the Republic of Togo.
Capt Nfodjoh was received by President Jean-Lucien Savi de Tové in the presence of senior government officials and dignitaries.
The event was characterised by a ceremonial guard and military fanfare, underscoring the significance of the diplomatic engagement between the two neighbouring countries.
In brief remarks after the ceremony, Capt Nfodjoh said he was honoured to represent Ghana and looked forward to strengthening the bilateral cooperation.
“Ghana and Togo share historic bonds, and my focus is to deepen these ties for the benefit of our people,” he stated.
Two other Commonwealth envoys, High Commissioners of Canada and Pakistan also presented their credentials during the colourful ceremony.
Their simultaneous accreditation highlighted Togo’s ongoing engagement with Commonwealth partners.
Present at the event were Professor Robert Dussey, Togo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr Jean-Christophe Koudjo Adanou, the Director of State Protocol, who jointly supervised the formalities.
Prof Dussey reiterated his country’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Ghana, noting, “Our nations are linked by geography and shared aspirations. We welcome Ghana’s new envoy with optimism.”
