Calm has been restored to the Gulumpe Community in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region, where Gonja and Kokomba youth have reconciled following recent clashes.
The peace restoration, which comes after weeks of tension and a government-imposed curfew, reflects a renewed pledge by both groups to resolve differences through dialogue and to protect lasting harmony in the community.
The disturbance began as a disagreement between some Gonja and Kokomba youth over loading charcoal onto a cargo truck. What started as a minor misunderstanding quickly escalated into violent clashes, with gunshots reportedly fired. The three injured individuals were treated and discharged from the Kintampo Municipal Hospital.

To contain the situation, the Ministry of the Interior imposed a curfew on October 21, 2025. The restrictions were lifted on November 4 after community leaders assured authorities that peace had been restored.
Both factions later converged at a joint durbar to smoke the peace pipe a symbolic act signaling the end of hostilities. The ceremony brought together members of the Gonja, Kokomba, Dagomba, Chakosi, Dagaba, and Gruma communities in a strong display of unity and reconciliation.
The National President of the Gonja Youth Association, Baba Alhassan Dramani Darison speaking at the programme called for peace in the area.
“We can always use dialogue to settle disputes among ourselves if it goes beyond as we should draw the attention of the police to settle issues among as. We should also not entertain people who fuel conflict.”

The National President of the Kokomba Youth Association, Titus Jawol Bisunna, on his part, said, “In societies there will always be conflict but how we handle them shows our level of maturity. Lets all embrace in Gulumpe and its environs to foster the development we want.”

“Lets do away with tribalism and see ourselves as one people, if there is no peace we cannot get the development we want in the Municipality,” Presiding Member, Kintampo North Municipal Assembly,Muzu Seidu Harrison said.
