The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has moved the expected release date for Ghana’s 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results from November 15 to early or mid-December 2025, according to www.theafricandream.net.

Candidates and parents eager for timely updates can dial *790*024# to check when the results will finally be released.

WAEC Confirms Marking Has Been Completed

In an interview with Accra-based television station Joy News, Mr. John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, confirmed that the examination body has completed the marking of scripts — a key stage before the release of results.

“We will probably look at a couple of weeks as I speak, my colleagues are in their meetings putting things together, so within this week and next week, I believe they should be able to conclude the issues and then have the results released,” he stated.

Explaining the results release process, Mr. Kapi noted that once scripts are marked, WAEC compiles the marks and scores of candidates and then assigns the appropriate grades.

“We are going to have to put together the mark and the grade of the candidates appropriately to award the candidates the grades they duly deserve,” the spokesman said, speaking on JoyNews AM show.

Exam Irregularities and Withheld Results Claims

Responding to concerns about examination malpractice and rumours that a large number of results may be withheld, Mr. Kapi indicated that WAEC is still working on irregularity cases and has not concluded investigations.

His comments followed a claim circulating online that WAEC had withheld 34,000 WASSCE results of candidates who sat for the international examination in Ghana. He stressed that WAEC has not released any official figures on withheld results.

“We have not released any official statement. I’ve seen the statement being circulated myself, but there are a lot of factual inaccuracies in it. We are still dealing with the issues and have not concluded investigations,” he said.

Candidates are therefore advised to rely only on official WAEC communication and credible update channels, and to ignore unverified figures shared on social media.

2025 WASSCE Candidate Statistics and Exam Timeline

For the 2025 WASSCE in Ghana, a total of 461,640 candidates sat for the examination. This figure comprises 207,381 males and 254,259 females from 1,021 Senior High Schools across the country.

The 2025 candidature represents a 0.22% increase over the 2024 entry figure of 460,611. The Ghana-only version of the international examination was conducted at 703 centres nationwide.

The 2025 WASSCE for School began on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, with Visual Art Project Work. Written papers started on Monday, August 18, 2025, and the examination officially ended on Friday, September 19, 2025.
