New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says he has the track record and ideas needed to transform Ghana, promising that if elected president, he will make living conditions in Ghana comparable to those abroad — what he described as bringing “Abrokyire” to Ghana.
Addressing party supporters in a video sighted by Citi News on Saturday, November 15, Dr. Bawumia highlighted what he considers major achievements under his leadership as Vice President, particularly in the area of digital transformation.
He recalled that before the previous administration took office, the Ghana Card system had not been rolled out. According to him, he was tasked with providing oversight and working closely with the National Identification Authority (NIA) to ensure the mass issuance of the card.
“We issued the Ghana Card, and today Ghana is one of the few countries in the world with this type of digital national ID,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia also pointed to reforms in the mobile money ecosystem. He explained that previously, mobile money transfers could not be made across networks and could not be linked to bank accounts. “I said it was possible for us to do it in Ghana, and we have done it,” he stated.
He added that the interoperability system has turned mobile money accounts into functional financial tools, allowing users to renew health insurance, pay utility bills, and receive international transfers directly into their mobile wallets. He emphasised that Ghana is the only country in Africa offering such a seamless digital financial platform.
According to him, the expansion of mobile money services has created a surge in employment. “When we came, the MoMo agents were 107,000. Now they are 900,000. We have created 800,000 jobs for MoMo agents,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to judge him by the results he has delivered as Vice President, arguing that innovative ideas — not money — are what transform nations.
“You have seen what I can do as Vice President without the power. If you make me president with the power, I will bring ‘Abrokyire’ to Ghana here,” he declared.
