HeFRA Shutdown TaTU Hospital, Fines Facility GH¢35,000

Tamale Technical University (TaTU) Hospital

The Health Facilities Regulatory Authority (HeFRA), has shutdown the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) Hospital.

A statement sighted by DAILY GUIDE, indicates that during an inspection at the health facility, HeFRA realised that care at the hospital was being provided under severely compromised safety and infection‑prevention standards.

A statement signed by Acting Registrar, Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah, said HeFRA’s mandate under the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829), is to licence and monitor public and private health facilities.

Dr. Baah revealed that the facility has been operating with an expired HeFRA licence, which poses serious concerns for public health and safety.

The situation resulted in an administrative fine of GH₵35,000 for regulatory violations, with the hospital directed to regularise its licensing status as well as maintain high safety standards in patient care.

He disclosed that the Tamale Technical University Hospital will remain closed until recommendations meant to address safety gaps and infection prevention challenges are fully addressed.

“The facility must take expeditious steps to regularise its licensing status with the Agency, and must uphold high standards of safety in the provision of health services to its clients,” he pointed out.

Dr. Baah assured that HeFRA remains committed to ensuring the safety of the public through the provision of quality healthcare services.
