Chief of Staff calls for investments in local manufacturers

By Edward Dankwah, GNA

Accra, Nov. 13, GNA – Mr Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, has paid a working visit to Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, with a call for support for local manufacturers.

During the visit, he commissioned the upgraded can-making line with an investment value of more than US $500,000 at the culinary plant in the Tema Industrial Area.

The Chief of Staff, toured Nutrifoods factories, located at Community 20 near the Abattoir and the Tema Industrial Area which were both recognised as the largest snacks and culinary food manufacturing facilities in Ghana.

Nutrifoods is known for popular household brands such as NutriSnax, Royal King Cracker, Perk, and Tasty Tom.

Mr Debrah commended Nutrifoods Ghana Limited for its outstanding commitment to local production, worker welfare, and export-oriented growth, describing the company as a model for Ghana’s emerging 24-hour economy.

Mr Debrah, who led a government delegation to the company’s facility in Tema, said the visit formed part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader vision to identify and promote businesses already embodying the principles of the 24-hour economy.

He expressed admiration for the company’s operations, noting that one of its plants already runs triple shifts, ensuring continuous production and employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

Mr Debrah highlighted Nutrifoods’ contribution to Ghana’s industrialization drive, emphasising that the company sources most of its inputs locally and exports to countries including Guinea-Bissau and Burkina Faso.

He described the activities of these companies as evidence that Ghana could indeed become the manufacturing hub of West Africa, as envisioned by President Mahama.

“We need to believe in ourselves that Ghana can export to the entire subregion. This is not a political slogan; it is a practical reality when you see companies like Nutrifoods at work,” he said.

He said the government was engaging industry leaders to understand the challenges facing manufacturers and the kinds of support needed to expand operations and create more jobs.

The Chief of Staff noted that the 24-hour Accelerated Export Drive Bill, currently before Parliament, would introduce incentives to encourage investors to enter the manufacturing and agro-processing sectors.

Mr. Debrah commended Nutrifoods for maintaining high safety and cleanliness standards and urged other local manufacturers to emulate their commitment to quality.

Mr Jay Anjaria, the Managing Director and Business Head of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, said the upgraded can-making line reinforced the company’s contribution to the government’s “Invest in Ghana” initiative, which promoted local industrial growth.

“At Nutrifoods, we adopt world-class standards for efficient and responsible production. We hold ourselves to the highest quality benchmarks in developing home-grown brands that meet the needs of the Ghanaian market,” he said.

Mr Anjaria highlighted Nutrifoods’ commitment to job creation and continued investment in building the intellectual and technical capacity required to support the future of manufacturing excellence in Ghana.

He reiterated their commitment to consumers, that their manufacturing processes remained fully compliant with all regulatory requirements, reflecting their longstanding promise to deliver food made with integrity, aligned with their core values of Responsibility, Transparency, and Consumer Trust.

“I think all these engagements give us a lot of solace that the government is there listening to

us. And we are completely committed to this Made in Ghana 24-hour economy. We are already there,” he stressed.
