Controversial flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, has taken a surprising moral turn, urging delegates in the Volta Region not to be swayed by cash handouts in the upcoming presidential primaries slated for January 31, 2026.
Speaking on VOV Radio after a meeting with some constituency executives, the outspoken Assin Central MP questioned the motives of some of his opponents, accusing them of using money as a tool to buy loyalty and votes.
“When we were begging for five hundred cedis per polling station, where were they? When we didn’t have cars as late as May 2016, where were these rich people? People who can give money — where were they?” he asked.
“Delegates, don’t think of today’s money; think of your future. Those enticing you with money can’t give you anything lasting. After that, they’ll say goodbye, and you’ll still struggle. Vote for the man who loves you, who cares about your welfare, and who’s ready to put his life on the line for you,” he added.
Kennedy Agyepong, who claimed to have acquired 60,000 acres of land for the people of the Volta Region, said his commitment to their welfare was proof of his sincerity.

However, political pundits have been left scratching their heads over the MP’s sudden gospel against money politics. Many find it ironic that the same Kennedy Agyepong — who has never shied away from flaunting his wealth and business success as credentials for leadership — is now decrying the influence of money in politics.
Some observers say this new message may be less about morality and more about strategy — especially if his famous deep pockets are suddenly feeling lighter than usual.
