Scene from the NAIMOS raid on November 9, 2025
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has reportedly arrested a kingpin of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the Eastern Region.
According to a report by award-winning investigative journalist Erastus Asare Donkor, NAIMOS carried out the arrest during a raid on a galamsey site in the Ayensuano District, which was polluting the Ayensu River.
He indicated that the said galamsey offered a bribe of GH¢100,000 to the NAIMOS officers, but they rejected it, arrested the person at the site, and shut down the operation.
“NAIMOS raids illegal mining site and arrests galamsey kingpin who has blocked and polluted the Ayensu River at Bisiasi in the Ayensuano District of Eastern Region.
The kingpin/thug appeared at the site with a pistol and attempted to bribe the NAIMOS Task Force with a cash amount of GH¢100,000,” he wrote in a post shared on Facebook on November 9, 2025.
He added, “The bribery cash and galamsey equipment have been seized and the site closed down.”
Visuals from the arrest, which took place on November 9, showed the alleged galamsey kingpin with the bundles of cash he tried to offer the anti-galamsey taskforce.
