An alleged bodyguard of Honourable Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam Adoagyiri, has been arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.
This was contained in a Facebook post by Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Elikem Kotoko.
According to the post, Elikem Kotoko said the guy who was caught by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task force allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities is said to be one of the “boys” of the Nsawam Adoagyiri MP, adding that others have described him as a bodyguard to the MP.
Elikem Kotoko has urged the NPP MP to either confirm his association with the suspect or disassociate himself from him if the rumours are inaccurate.
He stressed that the response from Annoh-Dompreh will be vital to their investigations and will also help the rest of the “boys” to know how to act around him.
“Dear Frank Annoh-Dompreh (MP),
How true is it that this guy in the picture below, who was caught in an illegal mining activity on a site by the NAIMOS Ghana taskforce is known to be one of your boys (others refer to him as one of your bodyguards), do you agree with them or you disassociate yourself from him.
Your response will be so vital, it will make the rest know how to act around you,” his Facebook post reads.
Elikem Kotoko’s post underscores the government’s relentless efforts in dealing with illegal mining activities which are fast depleting the country’s forest reserves and water bodies.
