Kumasi, Nov. 08, GNA – The Turkish Embassy in Ghana and Turkish Airlines have agreed to sponsor the P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year, Female Journalist of the Year, and Student Journalist of the Year on a special trip to Turkey as part of their package for this year’s GJA Media Awards.
Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the President of the GJA, announced this at the 29th GJA Media Awards held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
He expressed appreciation to the Turkish Embassy and its partners for their continuous support to the Association and congratulated all award winners for their dedication and excellence.
Mr. Dwumfour reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to promoting journalistic excellence and upholding the highest professional standards in Ghana’s media practice.
He said this year’s awards sought to reward hard work, innovation, and professionalism among journalists and media institutions while motivating practitioners to contribute meaningfully to national development.
A total of twenty-nine journalists were honoured across various categories, with outstanding media houses also receiving programme-based and institutional awards.
Speaking on the theme for this year’s event, “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security and the Fight Against Galamsey,” Mr. Dwumfour said the choice of theme underscored the crucial responsibility of the media in advancing national cohesion and sustainable development.
He emphasised that peace and security were indispensable foundations for progress, stressing that “development can only thrive in the absence of conflict.”
The GJA President also urged the government to address the ethical and governance challenges confronting the nation, which he said were threatening social harmony and environmental sustainability.
He further encouraged journalists to remain steadfast in promoting peace, exposing wrongdoing, and championing the fight against illegal mining, which continues to endanger the environment and the future of many communities.
The event, held under the distinguished patronage of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, brought together journalists, traditional leaders, diplomats and media stakeholders from across the country.
