KASOA MP Naa Koryoo Breaks Silence on 2024 Election Attack Says She Was Targeted And Left Naked

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hon. Naa Koryoo Okunor, has finally broken her silence over the chaotic events of the 2024 general elections, responding to recent findings by the Presidential Task Force on Electoral Violence which suggested that she was nowhere near an alleged attack scene.

Addressing a packed press conference in Accra, the outspoken MP fiercely rejected claims that her convoy was never attacked, describing the official report as incomplete and misleading. “At no time did I say no attack happened,” she stressed. “On election day, while visiting polling stations, I noticed my convoy was being followed by a V8 vehicle allegedly linked to government operatives and a NADMO pickup with a green number plate. I decided to go home because I feared for my life.”

The official report from the task force. set up to probe violent election incidents between 2020 and 2024,claimed that Hon. Koryoo had denied any attack on her convoy and that witnesses had refused to cooperate. However, she refuted this version, accusing investigators of twisting her statements. Hon. Koryoo further revealed that she had not yet provided a written statement to police, citing “ill-treatment” she suffered during the 2020 election unrest. She insisted that the public should not confuse her caution for silence. “I would have preferred to wait for the investigation to conclude before speaking, but I cannot keep quiet when falsehoods are being circulated. My commitment is to truth, justice, and the safety of my constituents,” she declared.

The MP also urged the task force to “stick strictly to the facts” she provided and called for unity within her constituency. “As the sitting MP for the good people of Awutu Senya East, I consider myself a mother for all. I have encouraged reconciliation and peace, but fairness must prevail,” she said.

She thanked President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for the Interior, and Parliament’s leadership for initiating the inquiry, but appealed for greater transparency and accountability. The press conference reignited national debate about the rising tide of election-related violence and the protection of candidates, particularly women in politics. As investigations continue, Hon. Naa Koryoo’s defiant tone has sent ripples through Ghana’s political landscape, raising questions about the credibility of official reports and the nation’s readiness to confront election violence head-on.
