Dagbon Youth Chief demands resignation of Special Prosecutor

The North America DemaNaa, Basha Iddrisu, who serves as the Dagbon Youth Chief in the Diaspora, has called for the immediate resignation of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, following what he describes as a public admission of failure in executing his mandate.

In a statement dated November 7, 2025, DemaNaa Basha Iddrisu said the Special Prosecutor’s recent public remarks that he was powerless to prevent former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from travelling to the United States amounted to an admission of failure and a breach of public trust.

According to him, the Special Prosecutor’s explanation that political interference, allegedly from the Presidency, hindered his ability to act, undermines the independence and credibility of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

“The Special Prosecutor’s public admission represents a betrayal of his oath of office and a deep violation of the trust and confidence reposed in him by the Ghanaian people,” the statement read.

He stressed that the OSP was created to uphold integrity and combat corruption, noting that any official who admits to being unable to perform his duties due to political or familial ties must resign.

“If he acknowledges his incapacity to act impartially and fulfil his constitutional duty because of family ties or political pressure, then resignation is the only honourable course,” DemaNaa Basha Iddrisu stated.

He further recalled that the “Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL)” campaign promise by President John Mahama was a key reason many Ghanaians supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the last election.

“If the Special Prosecutor, whose mandate it is to lead this effort, has publicly admitted the task is above him, then he has no locus occupying the position,” he said.

The North America DemaNaa urged President Mahama to act decisively, stating that if the Special Prosecutor fails to resign voluntarily, the President should take the necessary steps to relieve him of his duties.

“Ghana’s anti-corruption institutions must not serve partisan or familial interests. The oath of office is a sacred covenant with the nation, not with individuals. It’s time for accountability, not excuses,” he added.
