Solomon Owusu is a member of the United Party
A leading member of the United Party, Solomon Owusu, has claimed that a Defence Intelligence officer was the first person to show up at the illegal mining site raided by National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS) at Ahafo Hwidiem.
According to him, the Defence Intelligence officer assigned to the Ahafo Region showed up following a demand by the Commander of NAIMOS, Colonel Dominic Buah, for the owner of the site where the illegal mining was taking place.

Speaking on TV3 on November 5, 2025, Owusu said that the Defence Intelligence officer in question must also be brought before the court for investigation.
“… He [Colonel Buah] asked one of them to call the owner of the site. The first person to appear after that call was the Defense Intelligence assigned to Ahafo Region. That’s why I say he must also be hauled to the court. I keep telling you that it is the politicians and people that you call honorable in society. That is the reason why we are not dealing with them. He came to identify himself to Colonel Dominic Buah and his team as the defense intelligence person,” Owusu claimed.
Commenting on the claim by the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, that he visited the site to ensure peace, Owusu refuted this, stating that the lawmaker had instructed the release of the arrested illegal miners.
He said that videos of the incident do not corroborate the MP’s claim of wanting to ensure peace in the wake of the irate youth attack.
Owusu, who claimed he had received a briefing from the NAIMOS commander, added that the handcuff keys were forcibly taken from the soldiers and used to free the arrested persons.
“I’ve seen all the videos associated with this commotion. There is no way in these videos that you see the MP who claimed he went there to show peace calming any nerves. When they got there, he the MP together with his thugs instructed the Colonel of the army assigned by the state to release the people that he had arrested.

“I just told you that Colonel Dominic Buah is a very close friend. I’ve gotten proper briefing. I don’t lie in anything. The MP together with his thugs instructed him to release the guys. He said ‘no, I wouldn’t but rather I’ll follow procedure. I want to send this people to a police station’. Listen to a professional person, he did not say he was sending them to Accra, but he was sending them to police station, so that they go and deal with the police. It was there that they violently took handcuff keys and freed the guys. You have done this and we are being told that what you are there to make peace,” he added.
