Tensions are rising within the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s family as his Abusuapanin (family head) has publicly refuted claims by Odo Broni that she is the musician’s widow. The revelation has sparked an emotional wave of reactions among fans and family members, many of whom are still mourning the icon’s passing.
In a discussion by Amazing TV on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Abusuapanin boldly declared that Odo Broni was never legally married to Daddy Lumba, insisting that the family does not recognize her as his wife. He stated that although Odo Broni may have been close to the late musician, their relationship “did not follow the traditional or legal procedures” that define a marriage in Ghanaian custom.
According to the Abusuapanin, it was necessary to “set the record straight” after Odo Broni began publicly referring to herself as a widow and speaking on behalf of the family. He emphasized that only the legitimate family and recognized spouse have the authority to make statements or represent the musician’s legacy in public matters.
The discussion grew heated as Amazing TV’s panelists questioned whether Odo Broni’s long-standing public support for Daddy Lumba, including her involvement in his music promotions and stage appearances, could warrant recognition as a partner. Some viewers called for calm and urged the family to handle the issue privately to avoid tarnishing the late musician’s memory.

Others, however, sided with the Abusuapanin, insisting that Ghanaian customary law is clear on matters of marriage, and public association alone cannot qualify anyone as a legitimate spouse.
The controversy has reopened deep emotional wounds within the Lumba family, even as preparations continue for the celebration of his musical legacy and memorial events expected later this month.
