National armwrestler, Godwin Sackey has opened up about his remarkable journey in the sport that has completely changed his life.
In an exclusive interview with Joel Eshun on GhanaWeb TV’s Sports Check, the African champion shared how discipline, perseverance, and passion guided him to become a national hero in armwrestling.
Sackey, who won gold and silver at the 2023 Africa Games in Accra recalled how his best friend influenced his decision to join armwrestling as a Senior High School student.
“I didn’t like the sport but my friend introduced me to it and made me like it when i was in the Secondary School. I thank him everyday because the continuous persuasion from him has completely changed my life.”
He also added that “Armwrestling has done a lot of me and now i’m an Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service because of armwrestling. Now I’m very happy because life is good and i couldn’t have done all these without armwrestling so i thank my friend and Charles Osei Assieby, the President of Ghana Armwrestling Federation.”
Now balancing his passion for armwrestling with his duties as an Immigration officer, Sackey continues to be a role model for many.
