Germany values strong civil ties with Ghana – President Steinmeier

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Ghana beyond political and economic relations, highlighting the importance of deep-rooted civil society partnerships between the two nations.

Speaking at a state lunch in his honour at the Flagstaff House on Monday, November 3, 2025, President Steinmeier said Ghana and Germany share a long-standing relationship that extends across diverse areas of national life.

“Mr President, our conversations before lunch, we spoke extensively about our ties in politics, the economy, security, and global affairs. These official ties, however, need a strong foundation in a civil society context. This is where the relationship between Ghana and Germany really stands out,” he stated.

He emphasised that the collaboration between the two countries goes beyond government-to-government engagements, encompassing culture, youth exchanges, education, science, religion, and tourism.

“There is almost no area of life which is not enriched somehow by the exchange between Ghanaian and German civil society, which is really great,” he added.

President Steinmeier expressed excitement about his visit and said he looked forward to seeing first-hand some of the joint projects and initiatives that reflect the vibrant cooperation between the people of both nations.

“I am therefore delighted that I will have the chance to experience first-hand some of these projects and initiatives this afternoon and tomorrow,” he said.
