The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has dismissed a publication by online news outlet Novareport claiming that Mr. Kevin Okyere, Chief Executive Officer of Springfield Energy, has been arrested or detained in Dubai due to EOCO’s alleged inaction on a fraud petition.
In a press statement issued by EOCO’s Head of Public Affairs, the Office described the report as false and misleading.
EOCO clarified that there are currently two active investigations involving Springfield Energy—one based on a petition against the company and another relating to an ongoing case between Springfield Energy and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST).
EOCO stressed that it operates under a strict policy where investigations must precede any arrests, not the other way around.

According to the agency, the case involving BOST and Springfield Energy is being treated as a priority because of its potential impact on BOST’s financial standing and the broader Ghanaian economy.
The Office expressed disappointment that Novareport failed to contact EOCO for clarification before publishing the story.
“Though EOCO does not comment on active investigations, it is regrettable that Novareport did not seek clarification from EOCO before running the false story,” the statement read.
EOCO reaffirmed its commitment to investigating and prosecuting economic and organised crimes in Ghana, assuring the public of its diligence and professionalism in handling all ongoing cases. The agency further urged the public to disregard the false claims and remain confident that EOCO is actively pursuing its mandate.
