A heated verbal exchange has erupted in Ghana’s gospel entertainment circles after popular gospel musician and evangelist Diana Asamoah responded sharply to controversial pastor Prophet Kumchacha, who recently described her as “Evangelist Nkasɛ-nkasɛ” — a Twi phrase loosely translated as “the talkative evangelist.”
The comment, which Kumchacha made during a radio interview earlier this week, quickly went viral on social media. In the video, the outspoken preacher accused Diana Asamoah of being “too loud” and “disrespectful,” suggesting that her recent public comments about other gospel artistes and politics were unbecoming of a Christian leader. He concluded by saying, “These days, Diana Asamoah talks too much — she has turned herself into Evangelist Nkasɛ-nkasɛ.”
Diana Asamoah, known for her boldness and humour, did not let the remark slide. In a live Facebook session on Thursday night, she fired back at Kumchacha, calling his statement both unprovoked and unchristian.
“If preaching the truth and speaking boldly about what affects the church makes me Evangelist Nkasɛ-nkasɛ, then I wear that name with pride,” she said. “Some of us are not afraid to speak up when the church is going astray. The Bible says we must reprove and correct — not remain silent for fear of being insulted.”
She went on to accuse Kumchacha of using her name to gain social media attention, saying his frequent criticism of other preachers and musicians had become a pattern. “Every time he wants trends, he mentions someone’s name. This time it’s me. But I am too focused on God’s work to be distracted,” she added.
The exchange has since triggered a wave of reactions from fans and fellow gospel artists. While some social media users have supported Diana Asamoah for defending herself, others have urged both figures to show restraint and promote unity among gospel ministers.
A few entertainment pundits have also weighed in. Blogger Zion Felix noted that both Diana Asamoah and Kumchacha are “media-savvy personalities” who understand how controversy fuels attention. “They may not mean harm, but such public spats affect how people view the gospel fraternity,” he said.
Kumchacha, whose real name is Nicholas Osei, is known for his comic preaching style and fiery comments about celebrities. He has clashed with several figures in the entertainment industry, including Afia Schwarzenegger, Obinim, and Nana Agradaa. Diana Asamoah, on the other hand, is a seasoned gospel artiste and evangelist celebrated for her hit songs like “Ma Bo Wo Din Na Mafriwo” and “Mabo Wo Din.”
Despite the tension, Diana Asamoah ended her statement on a calm note, saying she harbours no hatred toward Kumchacha and will continue to pray for him. “We are all doing God’s work in different ways. I just wish we would focus more on winning souls than on attacking each other,” she concluded.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing blend of religion, celebrity, and social media drama in Ghana’s entertainment space — where even men and women of God sometimes find themselves at the centre of controversy.
