Armed Robbers Attack NPP MP For Jaman South On His Way From Drobo To Berekum

There was tension and fear along the Drobo–Berekum highway on Thursday night after armed robbers reportedly attacked the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jaman South, who is a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to preliminary information, the MP, whose name has been withheld for security reasons, was returning from a political meeting in Drobo when his convoy was ambushed by a group of heavily armed men. The attack occurred around 9:30 p.m. near a section of the road notorious for criminal activities.

Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers, numbering about six, emerged from a nearby bush and opened fire indiscriminately to stop vehicles approaching the area. The MP’s driver is said to have swerved off the road in an attempt to avoid the bullets, causing minor damage to the vehicle. Fortunately, no deaths were recorded, but the MP and his security aides reportedly sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The robbers allegedly made away with valuables, including cash, mobile phones, and personal belongings. They also reportedly stopped other vehicles on the stretch, robbing passengers before fleeing into the bush when they heard police sirens approaching.

Following the attack, the MP was escorted safely to Berekum under police protection. The incident was immediately reported to the Bono Regional Police Command, which has since deployed a team of officers to the area to track down the suspects.

A police spokesperson confirmed the attack, describing it as a serious criminal act that demands urgent attention. He assured the public that investigations have begun and that patrols along the Drobo–Berekum road will be intensified to ensure the safety of travelers.

Residents in the area have expressed fear and frustration, lamenting that the road has become increasingly unsafe in recent months due to repeated robbery incidents. Many have called on the government to improve lighting and security presence along the route, especially during night hours.

Meanwhile, the NPP in the Jaman South constituency has condemned the attack, urging authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly. The MP, who is said to be recovering, has thanked God for his safety and expressed appreciation to the security forces and constituents for their concern.

The incident adds to a growing list of armed robbery cases in the Bono Region, sparking renewed calls for stronger anti-crime measures to protect political figures and ordinary citizens alike.
