Following the assault of a female customer by a soldier at a pharmacy in Burma Camp on October 29, 2025, expert security consultant Richard Kumadoe has made statements that have sparked public debate. The soldier involved has been identified as WOI William Mensah.
Reports indicate that the female victim is the daughter of a former Provost Marshal of the Military Police, a senior position responsible for overseeing law enforcement, discipline, and security within the Ghana Armed Forces. The role also outranks the suspect’s rank of WOI.
Speaking to PrimeMorning with Razak Musbau on JoyNews, as shared on Joy News’ Official Facebook page, Kumadoe commented on the incident, stating he would not have dared confront the soldier if he were in the victim’s position. He suggested that the young woman’s attempt to calm WOI Mensah, relying on her father’s military status, led to her being assaulted.
“If I were the young lady in that pharmacy and a military officer walked in angry, I wouldn’t dare speak to him. But this young lady, knowing that her father is a soldier, tried to appease him and that’s why he beat her up,” Kumadoe said.
The incident, captured on CCTV, reportedly began when WOI Mensah demanded a refund of approximately GH¢65.00 for medication he had sent a boy to purchase.
When the pharmacy attendant informed him that medicines were non-refundable, the soldier became enraged and physically assaulted both the attendant and the female customer.
Footage shows the soldier pushing the female customer, slapping her several times, and then attacking the male attendant. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, WOI Mensah pursued the female customer outside the shop.
He subsequently returned, brandishing a metallic foldable ladder and appeared to threaten staff while demanding his money. The Military Police have since arrested the soldier.
Kumadoe’s remarks on the incident have generated significant backlash online, with many netizens criticizing his perspective as insensitive and victim-blaming.
