The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially distanced itself from recent comments made by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, regarding former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a statement released by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the NPP condemned the MP’s remarks, described it as “unfortunate” and emphasised that they do not reflect the party’s values or position.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to unity, inclusivity, and respect for all members, regardless of their background.

Boateng, during a televised interview on Accra-based Adom TV, referred to Dr Bawumia as an “alien” within the party and suggested that his candidacy for the NPP flagbearer position was causing division.
The comments sparked widespread backlash from party members and supporters, particularly from the Northern Region.
In response, the Ashanti Regional Communications Team of the Bawumia campaign condemned the MP’s statements, calling them divisive and disrespectful.
A youth group affiliated with the NPP in the North also issued a statement demanding an apology and urging party leadership to take disciplinary action.
The NPP leadership reiterated that the party remains committed to its founding principles of freedom, justice, and equal opportunity, and called on all members to uphold these values in their public discourse.
