The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has inaugurated management committees for four of its key divisions and subsidiaries as part of efforts to strengthen governance, enhance institutional efficiency, and promote accountability.
The newly inaugurated committees are for the Seed Production Division (SPD), Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED), Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG), and the Cocoa Clinic.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, underscored the crucial roles played by the divisions and subsidiaries in fulfilling the Board’s mandate. He noted that the establishment of the committees aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, which seeks to promote efficiency and innovation within public institutions.
“No matter how challenging the task is, we have a responsibility to bring our best together to pool the necessary resources that we can to ensure that we are able to turn things around,” Dr. Abbey stated.
He urged committee members to adopt creative and resourceful approaches in addressing the challenges within the cocoa sector. Dr. Abbey further encouraged the use of internally generated funds to implement solutions, rather than over-relying on external financial support.

“There are many things we can change about this organisation which will not require external funding. If we looked deeply enough, we would identify that the bottlenecks offer opportunities for solutions,” he added.
The chairpersons of the four committees expressed gratitude to management for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work diligently toward achieving COCOBOD’s goals.
The committees are chaired by Professor Gerald A. B. Yiran (CHED), Professor Austin Dziwornu Ablo (SPD), Professor Irene Susana Egyir (CRIG), and Dr. Randy Abbey (Cocoa Clinic).
COCOBOD believes the combined expertise and leadership of these individuals will help drive efficiency, innovation, and progress across the organisation’s operational divisions.
