If they challenge me, I will expose details about deep-rooted corruption in this program—Adwoa Safo

A report from GhanaWeb states that Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Minister for Gender and ex-Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, has accused former President Nana Akufo-Addo of undermining her anti-corruption efforts in the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

In an interview on Movement TV, Safo alleged that the programme was deeply corrupt and urged anyone disputing her claims to come forward. “If they challenge me, I’m ready with proof—more evidence will follow,” she declared.

She explained that she had been officially directed by the President to review the operations of the School Feeding Secretariat. But after she submitted her findings, she was instructed to ignore her own report. “I was told that the President never gave such an order. I strongly suspect that some influential individuals interfered,” she remarked.

Adwoa Safo further accused the late Gertrude Quashigah, the then National Coordinator, of orchestrating fraudulent activities, including fabricating nonexistent schools to divert funds. According to her, she refused to be part of those dealings and faced warnings because she stood her ground.

She asserted that the challenges and hostility she endured in government were the result of her efforts to expose corruption in the programme. Safo said she initially remained quiet to prevent political tensions but now feels compelled to tell her story. “I stayed silent for too long, but I can’t let lies tarnish my integrity,” she emphasized.

She also alleged that Quashigah often avoided critical meetings and used her connections within the presidency to shield herself from accountability, further frustrating efforts to clean up the system.
