Ashanti NPP Youth organisers reject Bryan Acheampong, declare unflinching support for Bawumia

A major political statement has hit the Ashanti Region as 62 out of 94 current and 34 out of 46 former NPP Youth Organisers have rejected the presidential ambitions of Bryan Acheampong, throwing their “unflinching and unbreakable” support behind Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s flagbearership contest slated for January 31, 2026.

According to the group, their decision stems from Bryan Acheampong’s public conduct, divisive comments, and political controversies, which they say contradict the values and ideology of the New Patriotic Party.

In a strongly worded statement, the organisers accused the Abetifi MP of “engaging in a campaign of lies and unprovoked attacks” on Dr. Bawumia, claiming that Bryan’s rhetoric and political posture were partly responsible for the NPP’s defeat in the last general elections.

They cited several instances they believe angered Ghanaians and turned public opinion against the party, including Bryan Acheampong’s attempted acquisition of SSNIT hotels, which they said remained a damaging topic in the public domain for months.

“The SSNIT hotel saga alone infuriated over 1.6 million contributors who not only voted against the NPP but also joined active campaigns to protest the move,” the statement said.

Why Dr Bawumia continues to receive strong backing from NPP MPs

The organisers also pointed to Bryan’s controversial statement that the NPP would never hand over power to the NDC, describing it as “undemocratic and reckless,” adding that such utterances dented the party’s democratic credentials and alienated floating voters.

“We are not driven by personal dislike or individual sentiments,” the youth organisers insisted. “We are guided by principle, loyalty, and the vision of a united and forward-looking NPP — and that vision, we believe, is embodied by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

They have therefore called on the NPP National Council, delegates, and members across the country to reject Bryan Acheampong’s presidential bid, saying the party “cannot afford to reward controversy with leadership.”

The group ended their statement with a firm endorsement:

“We stand solidly behind Dr Bawumia — a man of humility, intellect, and integrity — to lead the NPP into victory in 2028 and beyond.”
