Kpebu Martin tackles NPP MP over ORAL claims

Martin Kpebu has responded to Baffour Awuah’s claim that the work of the ORAL committee was a waste Martin Kpebu has responded to Baffour Awuah’s claim that the work of the ORAL committee was a waste

Renowned private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has reacted to criticisms of the work of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) preparatory committee, which he was a part of, by the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on October 25, 2025, Kpebu asserted that President John Dramani Mahama took the right decision to form the committee.

He indicated that the committee helped the president satisfy the desire of Ghanaians for the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government to be held accountable, adding that the committee did not use any resources from the government.

“As for the decision of the president to create ORAL, it is a high-water mark. We filled in a vacuum at that time. Remember, when citizens are supporting you, it is only for a while. If they find out you are tone-deaf, they withdraw, and then you find it difficult to get them to rally behind you.

“So, that was a stellar decision by the president to carry the citizens along, even though I don’t have an office,” he said.

He added, “Baffour said it (ORAL) was a waste of state resources — an MP and lawyer… We didn’t take GH¢1 of government money, not even fuel, not even water from the government.”

The private legal practitioner said that he would never take money for such jobs, saying, “I’m a bit smarter than that… small money, you won’t get me; I won’t take it because you would pay a high price.”

Manhyia South MP blasts Kpebu, Domelevo for ‘feeding AG with garbage’ in ORAL report

What the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South said:

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah launched an attack on members of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, accusing them of submitting what he described as a poorly executed and “garbage-filled” report to the Attorney General.

According to the lawmaker, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been vindicated in its long-held position that the ORAL initiative was a complete waste of time and national resources.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews on October 22, 2025, Baffour Awuah questioned the competence and diligence of the committee members, including former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo, lawyer Martin Kpebu, and retired Commissioner of Police Kofi Boakye.

“What was the utility of the ORAL? When you look at the persons forming the committee — Domelevo, Kpebu and Boakye — these are all experienced people. Yet, all they did was receive documents and hand over a report to the president filled with garbage. What was the use of that?” he quizzed.
