President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has assured that the Black Stars’ technical team will select only the best players for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Ghana will make a return to the global stage next summer when the tournament is co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
With head coach Otto Addo yet to unveil his final squad, Okraku emphasized that the GFA’s Executive Council expects the strongest possible selection.
“Every Ghanaian who is playing well will be given a chance by the technical team. At the end of the day, only 11 players can be selected to play on the pitch, and the final selection has to be only 24 players who can make the squad,” he told Asempa FM.
Okraku also welcomed calls from the Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, for transparency and merit in player selection.
“What the Executive Council demands from the technical team is the best, and if the Minister [Kofi Adams]Â make a demand that we must select the best players and be transparent, it is right because Ghana must field the best players as always.
“We cannot sit down aloof for any player to make the squad, and I welcome the suggestion by the Sports Minister to get the best players for the Black Stars,” he added.
He added that the association would not allow complacency to influence squad selection, stressing that performance and commitment would be the key criteria.
Ghana will learn their group stage opponents for the World Cup on December 5.
