By Elsie Appiah-Osei

Accra, Oct 25, GNA – The New Patriotic Party Minority Caucus in Parliament, has expressed sorrow over the passing of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a “fearless advocate for women’s rights.”

The Caucus said Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings was a trailblazer whose legacy has left an indelible mark on Ghana’s history.

A statement released in Accra and signed by Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, highlighted the former First Lady’s pivotal role in championing women’s empowerment through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which she founded in 1982.

“Her work inspired generations of Ghanaian women to pursue leadership, entrepreneurship, and social progress,” it said.

The statement also underscored the former First Lady’s contribution to the inclusion of the “Affirmative Action” clause in the 1992 Constitution, a landmark achievement that continued to shape Ghana’s commitment to equity and inclusion.

The Minority Caucus extended its condolences to Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle and a daughter of the late former First Lady; the entire Agyeman-Rawlings family; and all whose lives were touched by the former First Lady’s service and compassion.

“May her soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.

Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings died on Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Accra at the Ridge Hospital.

She was 76 years old.
