Mahama nominates Soyelleh Cecilia as Lawra MCE

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Soyelleh Cecilia as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region.

Her nomination, announced in an official statement issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Thursday, October 24, 2025, is in line with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.

The statement, signed by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, said the President’s decision was communicated through a letter (Ref. No. OPS.102/25/3571) from the Office of the President.

Madam Soyelleh Cecilia’s appointment is subject to approval by the Lawra Municipal Assembly, as required by law.

If confirmed, she will assume responsibility for coordinating government policies and development initiatives within the municipality, working closely with the Regional Coordinating Council and local stakeholders to drive progress in the area.

The Lawra nomination adds to the list of local government appointments being made under the Mahama administration to strengthen decentralisation and improve service delivery at the district and municipal levels.
