A public display of tension between former Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo and her brother, Kwadwo Safo Akofena, has stirred widespread discussion following a viral video taken at their father’s 40-day memorial service.
The incident took place on October 20 at the University of Ghana Sports Complex, where family and friends gathered to honor the late Apostle Dr. Ing. Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Church and the Kantanka Group of Companies. In the now widely circulated video, Kwadwo Safo Akofena is seen greeting family members in a line. However, when he approaches Adwoa Safo for a handshake, she turns away, pointedly ignoring him.
The cold exchange has drawn significant attention on social media, reigniting discussions about an alleged rift between the siblings. The strained relationship appears to have deepened following the passing of their father on September 11. Shortly after his death, a family statement—reportedly issued under Adwoa Safo’s leadership—advised the public not to engage in any funeral or business dealings with Kwadwo Safo Akofena, asserting he had no authority to represent the family.
Sources close to the family suggest the feud may be rooted in disagreements over succession plans for the Kantanka business empire. While Kwadwo has long been viewed as the natural successor, Adwoa Safo’s recent involvement in key family matters signals a possible challenge to that role.
The video has sparked mixed reactions online, with some calling for unity in honoring their father’s legacy, while others interpret Adwoa’s gesture as a response to deeper family issues.
With tensions still unresolved, public interest in the family’s internal conflict shows no sign of fading.
