Charles Bissue, an aide to Kennedy Agyapong, has refuted claims that the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central ever contemplated leaving the party or contesting as an independent candidate.

He said Kennedy Agyapong’s loyalty to the NPP remains unwavering, rooted in his decade-long commitment as a founding member.

According to a myjoyonline.com report dated October 19, 2025, Bissue explained that Agyapong’s dedication was evident during the 2024 general election campaign, when he personally visited eight constituencies to support Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate.

“In 2023, some people went to his house and wanted him to become an independent candidate. He drove them away, saying that the NPP has made him who he is,” Bissue said.

He added that Agyapong has never expressed any intention to abandon the party or withdraw support for its elected leaders.

“Somebody who is a founding member of the party, I think the party is dear to his heart. He has never said he would leave the party or refuse to help any winning candidate,” Bissue stated.

He emphasised that unity among key party figures such as Agyapong and Dr Bawumia will be crucial as the NPP rebuilds for future elections.

“If Kennedy wins, he will need Dr Bawumia and if Dr Bawumia wins, he will need Kennedy and the others,” Bissue noted.

His remarks come amid growing scrutiny of internal dynamics within the NPP as the party repositions itself for the 2028 presidential race following its loss in the 2024 general elections.
