Drama at Shatta Wale’s 40th Birthday Bash at Independence Square

According to a report by The 1957 News On Saturday October 18, 2025, a night meant for celebration turned chaotic as security personnel struggled to control an excited crowd during the 40th birthday celebration of Ghanaian dancehall star, Shatta Wale, at the Independence Square in Accra.

The event, which drew thousands of fans from across the country, quickly became overcrowded as supporters tried to force their way through barriers to get closer to the stage. In a viral video shared by The 1957 News, uniformed security staff wearing orange vests were seen attempting to hold back a group of eager fans pushing against a metal fence.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened moments before Shatta Wale was expected to make an appearance. The overwhelming number of attendees reportedly caused confusion at the entrance, with some people breaching security checkpoints to secure better viewing spots. Despite the commotion, no serious injuries were reported, though several people were seen falling and scrambling for safety as the fence bent under pressure.

Event organizers later issued a statement praising the security team for their quick intervention, which prevented a possible stampede. They also assured the public that necessary measures would be taken to improve crowd management at future events.

Shatta Wale’s birthday celebration, themed “The Street Is Wale”, featured performances from top Ghanaian artists, fireworks displays, and fan interactions. The event was intended to be a free concert for his loyal followers, but the massive turnout far exceeded expectations.

While the night eventually continued in high spirits, the chaotic scenes have sparked online debate about safety standards at large public gatherings in Ghana, with many calling for tighter crowd control and better event planning in the future.
