Tears and Tributes as Family, Friends Honour Arise TV’s Somtochukwu in Port Harcourt

As family, friends, and coworkers gathered in Port Harcourt to pay their final respects to Somtochukwu, a beloved journalist with Arise Television, whose passing has left a deep void in Nigeria’s media community, the day was full of emotion, reflection, and gratitude, according to The Guardian Nigeria.

A sizable crowd of mourners, including members of the media, personal friends, and civic leaders, attended the memorial service, which was conducted at a private location in Port Harcourt.

Somtochukwu’s expertise, humility, and constant dedication to truth and narrative were highly praised by attendees.

He was “a dedicated journalist whose work inspired many within and beyond the newsroom,” according to his Arise TV colleagues.

He frequently covered difficult national events with integrity and fairness, and they praised his ability to add humanity and clarity to his reports.

In addition to expressing their sorrow, family members thanked friends and professional associations for the love and support that have been shown since his death was announced.

“A shining light who lived a short but impactful life in service to others,” according to a close relative, was Somtochukwu.

At the celebration, representatives from the Rivers State media groups and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) praised his commitment to media growth and encouraged aspiring journalists to follow in his moral footsteps.

Despite being premature, Somtochukwu’s passing has rekindled discussions about the difficulties Nigerian journalists confront and the significance of putting mental health and wellness first in the field.

Arise Television has confirmed plans for a special broadcast in his honor, and he will be laid to rest later this month.
