President John Dramani Mahama when he addressed the UN assembly recently
President John Dramani Mahama has explained the reason behind his choice of traditional prints during international travels.
According to him, his attire choices are intentional, aimed not only at promoting the African continent, but also at supporting Ghana’s garments industry.

Speaking to Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya in a video shared on Facebook on Friday, October 17, 2025, Mahama also stated that traditional outfits are comfortable, but added that he resorts to formal wear for official duties.
“[I’m representing the continent] and also boosting the garments industry in my country. This [outfit] is weather-friendly for our temperature. It’s comfortable, easy to wear and I only wear suits for some official occasions.
“But, otherwise, every day at work, I feel more comfortable in this attire or else then for some official appointments, you have to wear our traditional attire,” he explained in the video.
