Why I Used To Drug Myself Whenever My Ex Husband Is Coming Home

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Etinosa Idemudia, has shared a heartbreaking account of her troubled marriage, revealing how years of physical and emotional abuse pushed her to the brink.

In a deeply emotional conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo on his talk show With Chude, the actress opened up about the painful experiences that forced her to walk away from her marriage.

Etinosa revealed that she initially entered the union with hopes of love, companionship, and happiness, but instead found herself living in constant fear and submission. She disclosed that her ex-husband frequently reminded her that he was not her equal, telling her chillingly, “I am not your friend; I am your lord.” According to the actress, those words became a haunting reminder of the toxic power dynamic that defined their relationship.

The actress narrated how the continuous abuse both physical and psychological gradually broke her spirit. Over time, she resorted to using drugs as a means to cope with the unbearable situation at home. Etinosa confessed that she often took drugs before her husband returned from work, not for pleasure but to numb herself emotionally and mentally in anticipation of the violence that might follow.

“Whenever he was coming home, I would just stash up and dope up so that no matter what he says or does, I would just be there quietly,” she recounted. “I did it just to maintain peace.”

Etinosa’s story is a powerful reminder of the silent suffering many women endure behind closed doors in abusive relationships. Her courage to speak out not only exposes the grim reality of domestic violence but also highlights the dangerous coping mechanisms victims sometimes turn to in their struggle to survive.
