The Movement for Change, the political movement of 2024 presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen, has officially transitioned into a political party.

The new political party will now be called the United Party.

Addressing a gathering at the official launch of the party on Thursday, a leading member of the Movement for Change, Boniface Abubakar Siddique, said that their movement would now be called “United Party” or “UP+”.

He indicated that the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) officially confirmed the status of the party earlier in October 2025.

Movement for Change shuts down NPP comeback claims

“This party has come to resurrect the old bones in the aged who know much about UP. The UP+ received its provisional certificate on the 3rd of October 2025.

“Today, we announce with enormous pride our arrival on the political scene of our beloved country. Every seed will germinate. But what I want to tell you is that when you sow a seed, it has to rot before it germinates,” Abubakar Siddique, who is the acting chairperson of the new party, said.

The Movement for Change was formed by Alan Kyerematen in 2023 after he broke away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of its internal presidential primary.

Alan, who was one of the candidates in the presidential primary, pulled out of the race, citing unfair treatment by the leadership of the party.

He subsequently declared his intention to contest in the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate under the Movement for Change umbrella.
