Zoomlion MD advocates for Household Waste Levy to boost collection rates

The Managing Director of Zoomlion Private Services Limited, Doris Kwekwor Adjei, has called for the introduction of a household waste levy in Ghana to enhance the country’s waste collection rate.

She believes that charging households based on the volume of waste they produce could significantly improve efficiency in the sector.

According to Madam Kwekwor, many Ghanaians struggle to pay their waste collection bills, which places a considerable strain on national waste management efforts.

She proposed that Ghana adopt a system similar to Singapore’s, where the government directly collects waste fees from residents and channels the payments to waste collection companies.

She made these remarks in an interview with Citi News during a study tour in Singapore aimed at exploring best practices in sanitation and waste management.
