Hajj 2026 cost slashed to GH¢60,000 — PAOG Chairman

The Chairman of the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG), Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim, has announced a reduction in the cost of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

According to a post by UTV Ghana on X on October 15, 2025, the cost of the pilgrimage has been reduced from GH¢62,000 to GH¢60,000 after extensive engagements with the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu; Sheikh Umar Imam Ibrahim of the Ahlussuna Wal Jama’a; and Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, Ameer and Missionary in Charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, as well as accredited Hajj agents and other prominent stakeholders.

“After consultations with key Muslim leaders and stakeholders, the cost has been reduced from GH¢62,000 to GH¢60,000,” Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim said.

Government reduces Hajj fare to GH¢62,000

Earlier this year, the government reduced the 2025 Hajj fare from GH¢75,000 to GH¢62,000, in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to make the pilgrimage more affordable for Ghanaian Muslims.

Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim explained that the latest reduction, approved by President Mahama, forms part of efforts to ease the financial burden on Muslims preparing to perform the Hajj next year.

He assured Ghanaian Muslims of the Office’s readiness to serve with dedication, honesty, and transparency, and urged all stakeholders to uphold integrity and professionalism in their dealings.

Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim also advised prospective pilgrims to make timely payments to avoid last-minute challenges that could disrupt travel arrangements.

He further reminded accredited Hajj agents to comply with the approved payment procedures through designated banks to ensure efficiency and accountability.

He disclosed that Ghana has been allocated a quota of 6,782 pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj and said the Office would continue to engage the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj Affairs to secure additional slots.

Alhaji Tanko Ibrahim expressed optimism about a smooth and well-coordinated Hajj operation next year, noting that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, the PAOG is determined to enhance Hajj administration in Ghana for improved service delivery.
