Gideon Boako defends Bawumia’s 2028 bid, cites NPP tradition of multiple attempts

Tano North Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Gideon Boako, has defended Dr. Bawumia’s candidature for the flagbearership slot of the New Patriotic Party.

According to him, the former Vice President’s decision to seek the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential nomination again for the 2028 general election is in line with the party’s tradition of supporting candidates who contest more than once.

According to him, the NPP’s most successful presidential candidates—former President John Agyekum Kufuor and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo—only won after multiple attempts, making Dr. Bawumia’s continued ambition a logical and strategic move.

He made the comments on Wednesday, October 15, during Dr Bawumia’s campaign in Sene East.

Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia, says he is confident the party can win the 2028 general elections if it effectively mobilises its base and ensures a strong voter turnout.

Speaking at the launch of his “Our Journey Together” campaign in the Sene East constituency on Wednesday October 15, Dr. Bawumia said the party’s loss in the 2024 elections was not due to the strength of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), but rather due to low turnout among NPP supporters.

“I am confident that, by the grace of God, if we resolve our internal issues and go out to vote, we will win the next election,” Dr. Bawumia said.
