Bono NADMO records four disaster-related deaths

By Christopher Tetteh
Sunyani, (Bono), Oct. 15, GNA-Mrs. Fati Kine-Lam, the Bono Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) says the organisation recorded four disaster-related deaths between January and September 2025.

She mentioned recurring floods, domestic fire outbreaks, windstorms as well as violent conflicts as the most common disasters in the region and called for stakeholder support towards effective disaster prevention and management.

Mrs Kine-Lam said this when speaking at a forum to mark the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) organised by the NADMO on the theme: “Fund Resilience, Not Disaster”.

The IDDRR was started in 1989, after a call by the United National General Assembly for a day to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction.

Held annually on October 13, the day celebrates how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness about the importance of reining in the risk that they face.

The forum was to increase awareness of disasters and devise strategies for disaster prevention and management in the region and attended security services, Heads of Department and Agencies and other stakeholders.

Mrs Kine-Lam called for effective stakeholder collaboration towards ensuring that structures and buildings were not constructed on waterways and disaster-prone areas.

“NADMO focuses much on disaster prevention”, she stated, and called for stakeholder support towards intensifying awareness creation on disaster prevention.

She also urged corporate bodies to invest in disaster risk reduction activities like tree planting and clean up exercises.
