2024 election was NPP’s worst; Bawumia was the problem – Pius Hadzide

Spokesperson for Bryan Acheampong’s 2026 campaign, Pius Enam Hadzide, has blamed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) poor performance in the 2024 general elections on its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Hadzide described the 2024 results as the worst in the party’s history.

“The presidential candidate is the one who leads the party during elections, typically receiving more votes than all the parliamentary candidates combined.

“The trend is that the presidential candidate is at the forefront, with the parliamentary candidates following, not the other way around. In 2024, all the parliamentary candidates combined received 44.50% of the votes, while the presidential candidate garnered only 41.60%,” he said.

He noted that while the party and government faced challenges, the results showed that voters’ rejection was directed at the presidential candidate rather than the NPP’s parliamentary hopefuls.

“This deviation from the trend indicates that we have problems with both the government and the party, but the candidate was also a significant issue.

“If the voters were truly against the party, they would have also voted against their parliamentary candidates. We faced challenges in 2008, yet we still secured votes,” Mr Hadzie stated.
