Ghanaian boxer and television personality, Braimah Kamoko, widely known as Bukom Banku, has opened up about how skin bleaching may have played a role in the loss of his television job.
According to him, the controversial decision to bleach his skin again stirred public criticism and may have influenced the sudden end of his show on GHOne TV.
Bukom Banku had been hosting a program titled “Bukom Banku Live”, which aired on the station during the 2020 election season in Ghana.
Initially, the show was introduced as a special segment to entertain and ease political tension before and after the elections. The management of GHOne TV made it clear at the time that the show was only meant to run for four months, and its conclusion was part of the original plan.
However, controversy arose when photos of Bukom Banku with noticeably bleached skin began circulating on social media.
The images sparked widespread backlash and renewed discussions about skin bleaching a topic for which Bukom Banku has often been criticized in the past.
Although the official explanation for the show’s end was the expiration of the agreed timeframe, many people speculated that his appearance may have influenced the station’s decision not to renew the program.
In various interviews, Bukom Banku has denied being fired due to bleaching but admitted that the backlash may have affected public perception and possibly the station’s image.
Despite the setback, Bukom Banku remains optimistic about the future. He mentioned that he is currently in talks with other TV stations, including TV7, and is open to returning to GHOne TV if the opportunity arises.
He emphasized that he has learned lessons from the experience and is focused on moving forward with his media career.
