Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi is a former board chairman of GIIF
Lawyers representing the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, have withdrawn their services from the ongoing $2 million Sky Train scandal case.
According to a report by starrfm.com.gh, the development was disclosed during proceedings on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Accra High Court presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvi-Tay, who confirmed receipt of a Notice of Withdrawal dated September 11, 2025, from the lawyer.
Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi, the second accused, attributed the move to a disagreement between him and his legal team, assuring the court that mediation was underway for a swift resolution.

“I learnt this morning that he won’t be available. The matter is being resolved, there is a misunderstanding between me and my lawyer. It’s being mediated, and I hope we will be able to resolve the matter this week,” he told the court.
Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi and co-accused Solomon Asamoah, former GIIF CEO, are facing six counts, including conspiracy to commit a crime, willfully causing financial loss to the state, and intentional dissipation of public funds, related to an unauthorised $2 million transfer in 2019 to Africa Investor Holdings Limited for shares in the failed Accra Sky Train project.
Both have pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, lawyers for Solomon Asamoah, led by Victoria Barth, informed the court that they had filed an application for a stay of proceedings.

However, Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai objected, stating the Attorney General’s office had not been served with the application.
Solomon Asamoah, the first accused, was granted GH¢15 million bail on May 13, 2025, with two sureties justifying the bond using registered land or property in the Greater Accra region.
He is required to deposit copies of his Ghana Card and digital address at the court registry, surrender his local and foreign passports, and report to the police every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until the case concludes.
Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi on the other hand, is on GH¢10 million self-recognizance bail and is mandated to report weekly to investigators.
The court has adjourned the matter to October 20, 2025, to hear the stay application and allow time for Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi to secure new representation.
