Kennedy Agyapong is more marketable, formidable and can easily win the 2028 elections – Bismark Boateng

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso Central Constituency, Bismark Boateng, has publicly declared his support for former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, to become the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

Boateng explained that his decision stems from his belief that the lawmaker and businessman is a more marketable and formidable candidate capable of leading the party to victory.

He asserted that widespread sentiment “from the streets to the ghettos and across every corner of Ghana” indicates that voters are eager to back the NPP if Agyapong becomes the party’s flagbearer.

Boateng revealed that he had initially planned to remain neutral due to his position as a party executive. However, he noted that the precedent set by other executives at both the national and local levels—who have publicly endorsed candidates—compelled him to also declare his support.

“I am Konnected. My initial thought was to remain neutral and not declare. The party leadership should have issued a directive preventing any party executive from endorsing a candidate. However, almost every executive has declared for someone, and so I have also decided to declare for Kennedy Agyapong,” he said.

Expanding on his decision, Boateng described Kennedy Agyapong as “marketable, formidable, the people’s choice,” and the most capable of leading the NPP to electoral victory.

“I have examined him and discovered that he is the most preferred candidate. I am a street boy, and I can tell you that he is loved and cherished on the streets. He is a household name. He has lived among the people, and when you mention his name, it resonates with them,” he added.

When asked whether the candidacy of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia a factor in the NPP’s previous electoral defeat was, Boateng expressed a critical view.

“I would say that Dr Bawumia did not help us. Every election has a candidate that fits a specific situation. The NPP had been tagged as an Akan party and one that uses and dumps Northerners. Therefore, the party decided to elect him, hoping he would secure us victory, but we did not achieve our goal as a party,” he remarked.

He maintained that selecting Dr Bawumia as a candidate again would likely diminish support, particularly among the party’s youth.

“Party supporters are still peeved and are looking for a different candidate—one who is not only courageous but formidable,” he stated.

Boateng further suggested that the former Vice President is perceived as one of the figures whose leadership style contributed to internal disaffection within the NPP, adding that nominating him again would not be in the party’s best interest.
