The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 26 new cases of Mpox as of October 10, pushing Ghana’s total number of confirmed infections to 713.
In its latest update, the Service said three patients are currently receiving treatment at health facilities, while the death toll remains unchanged at three.
This comes just days after 17 new cases were recorded on October 7, raising the figure to 687.
“The public must remain vigilant and adhere strictly to personal hygiene and preventive measures to help stop the spread of the disease,” the GHS advised.
Health officials explained that Mpox, spreads primarily through close contact with an infected person.
Common symptoms include fever, rash, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and tiredness.
The GHS has urged anyone who develops these symptoms to immediately report to the nearest health facility for testing and treatment.
The Service also reiterated its commitment to working with regional health directorates and other partners to monitor the situation closely and strengthen the country’s response to the outbreak.
Ghana first recorded Mpox cases in 2022, and the disease has since continued to resurface in several parts of the country, with health authorities calling for heightened public awareness and caution.
