The former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has criticised Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over his remarks alleging that Ashanti MPs opted for community roads instead of flyovers, resulting in the region’s current infrastructural challenges.
According to him, Ghanaians should question why they give any audience to Otchere-Darko, challenging the authority with which he made such statements.
Ashanti NPP MPs reject Gabby Otchere-Darko’s claims over road project choices
The former lawmaker argued that Otchere-Darko has never held a key government position under the NPP and, therefore, his comments should be disregarded.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, he said; “Flyover and community road, are they the same? Why give a hoot about what Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko says? The person who said that, was he a Member of Parliament, Minister for Roads? Was he Akufo-Addo’s Chief of Staff or his secretary? Why do Ghanaians entertain certain things.”
“During former President Akufo-Addo’s first term, I was the Ashanti caucus secretary. During a meeting at the Jubilee House, Akufo-Addo came with Asenso-Boakye [former roads minister]. Why did he also come with his secretary or his chief of staff?… Why should this be an issue for it to be discussed? What position or office did that person hold under the NPP government?” he quizzed.

Boakye Antwi is the latest to criticise Otchere-Darko over his alleged remarks.
It will be recalled that the Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) also dismissed the claims.
